Cory Arcangel

I first heard about Cory from William Rose, one of my tutors who visited New York and saw his work. At this Years Evolution Festival, Evolution 2003, I had the perfect opportunity to meet Cory, enjoy his presentation and get to chat with him afterwards.

There is a certain pureness and friendliness about Cory's work that is both refreshing and inspiring. In my opinion Cory has managed to put a friendly face on the realm of direct hardware manipulation and software abuse.

This work consists in showing, day after day, the memory of his computer translated (that is, 'masked' as a Quicktime file) to minimalist multicolor animations and rough sounds.

In the short time that I had with Cory after his presentation, he kindly showed me how he created his data diaries and I hope to further my contact with him in order to find out more about his specific aesthetic values.
